Reference List and Important Points

Human Resources Specialists or managers or employers don’t examine just your experiences and qualifications. You can be sure they want to learn how you are a worker, you come across with this question in job interviews, it is known reference control is often made and ideas about you are always taken by your references, you should be so careful while you are choosing your references, and you should give just correct information about them. There are some details to choose correctly your reference.

What is Reference?

In job applications, reference is a person,knows you, has information about you, your working form, can give information about you when it is necessary. The most important reason reference is necessary , is to be wondered about how you are a worker for companies.

Can Everyone Be Your Reference?

A reference is summarized as names and contact information of people, know you well, everyone can not be your reference. Real aim to confirm a reference is to controll your CV, if you worked in those companies or not, if you studied at those schools or not, etc. You should give at least two references in a job interview.

How Can You Choose Your References?

Instead of creating your references from your family members or your friends, you should give primacy to your previous boss or manager. You can share contact information of your previous boss or manager who is in same sector with your new job application. If you have just one or two job experiences, you should choose people who you are closer. If the job which you apply for, is your first job, you should give two references who can talk objectively. Your teachers at high school, professors at university, can be your references. To give your family members’ names will not be professional.

Which Questions are Asked to Your References?

Reference control provides your employer to have information about you. Lots of employers, are aware of advantages of reference control, make reference control before making any job offer. The authority can check trueness of information in CV and in the job interview  with reference control. He or she can understand if the applicant is suitable for that job or not. If your job interview is positive, there are some standard questions which can ask to your references. These questions are at below:

  • How long have you known the applicant whom you are a reference?
  • Which position was the applicant while you were working together?
  • Can you confirm the applicant’s starting date of employment and termination date?
  • Can you specify the reason why the applicant leave from the company?
  • Which responsibilities did the applicant have in the company?
  • Was there any problem which affected the applicant’s working performance in the company?
  • How was the applicant’s business manner?
  • Is he or she a good team – mate? How is the applicant a team player?
  • Was the applicant getting on with his or her managers, directors, employers and colleagues?
  • How do you evaluate the applicant’s skills?
  • Which strengths and weaknesses does the applicant have?
  • Is there any character type which the applicant slogs on working together?
  • What is your idea about receptiveness of the applicant? Does he or she stand open to new ideas and procedures?
  • How is the applicant’s performance under the stress?
  • What was the biggest achievement of the applicant while he or she was working in your company?
  • How is the applicant’s executive, leadership and supervisor skills?
  • Do you want to work with him or her together again?
  • If I explain the position that we will accept for him or her, can you say if the applicant is suitable for this position or not?

If your job interview is positive and Human Resources Specialist, manager or employer specifies that they will make reference control;

  • You can give information about job interviews to your references, you can specify they will call.
  • By giving information about the possible questions which will be able to asked to your references, you can give opportunity for preparing to them.

If you make this preliminary preparation, it will be better. Your references will be ready and  they will describe you more comfortably.

While Writing a Reference?

  1. You should write at least two references.
  2. Give information about yourself to your references.
  3. Write communication information of your references completely.
  4. Write your reference information in the end section of your CV.
  5. Specifying your references, start from the company which you work lastly.
